Electric Locomotives

The First Electric Locomotive
In 1879, Siemens & Halske presented the first electric locomotive in the world.

E18/19
Class E18 and E19 were built before the sencond world war. Their appearence and technical features were common in many points. Their looking is still very popular.

BR 110.0 BR 110.1
E10.0 was used for many cxperiments. The data from these experiments affect many locomotives which were built later. In 1954 the mass-production of E10.1 was started. E10 were renumbered to class 110.

BR 113
E10.12 was based on E10.1 but faster than E10.1 and was operated for express trains like "Rheingold". They were renumbered to class 112 in 1968, and then to class 113.

BR 141
Class 141 was first built in 1956. It is operated not only in main lines but also in branch lines, and hauled passenger trains and light freight trains.

BR 140/139
Class 140 was first built from 1956 to 1973, and was operated for suburban traffic and freight trains. Class 139 is much in common with class 140.

BR 103.0 BR 103.1
Probably class 103 is the most popular locomotive in Germany, because of its fast run and good-lookins.
In 1965, 4 locos of E03 were built. From 1968, E03 was called 103.0. In 1970, the mass-production of 103.0 was started. 103s which were mass-produced were called 103.1.

BR 151
From 1973 locomotives of class 151 were produced for heavy fright trains.

BR 181.2
Class 181.2 adapt to two electric systems, and can connect to France and Luxembourg.

BR 111
Locomotives of class 111 are operated for many types of passenger trains.

BR 120
Class 120 is an epoch-making locomotive. But it has some faults. At first 4 locomotives of class 120.0 were built, and then the mass-production of class 120 was started and 60 locomotives of class 120.1 were built.

BR 155
Class 155 is powerful and fast, and operated mainly for heavy goods trains.

BR143
Class 143 is a standard locomotive which can used for both passenger trains and goods trains.

BR112
Both DB and DR ordered many locomotives os class 112. And they have been used for fast passenger trains.

BR101
Class 101 is the successor of class 103 and is hauling InterCity, EuroCity and InterRegio. BR101 List / BR101 Photo Gallery
