Class 112 (002-040/101-190 : 129 locomotives) |
![]() |
After the unification of East and West Germany, DR needed many locomotives
for fast passenger trains and ordered 4 locomotives based on class 243.
The number of these locomotives are 212 001-005. The outside appearance
of them was similar to class 243, but some improvements are made. Class
212 was faster and more powerful than class 243. (Class 212 001 was one
of the experimental locomotive of class 243.) In 1991, the first mass-production was started and 35 locomotives of class 112.0 were built. They were the last locomotives which were ordered by DR. Though they had DR logo, they had DB`s standard livery. And they had no number plate. From 1992 to 1994, to make trains in old DR area faster, second mass-production was made and 90 locomotives of class 112.1 were built. The number and positions of lights on the front face were changed. The another change is the size of the lettering numbers in both sides of the locomotives. The size of class 112.1 was smaller than that of class 112.0. Please check these photos.
Now locomotives of class 112 was operated for IR in old DB area, IC/IR in old DR area and suburban trains which runs at 160km/h around Berlin. They are all belongs to Bw Berlin, so they have little oppotunity for running in the State of Bayern and the State of Baden-Württemberg. The wheel arrangement of class 112.1 is Bo-Bo, length 16,400mm, weight 82.5t, power output 4,220kW, acceleration rate of 248kN, and max speed 160km/h. |
