E18/19

Class E18 (55 locomotives)

From 1935, 53 locomotives of E18 were built by AEG and entered in service by DRG. E18 was designed for long-distance passenger sevices and were expected to haul heavy trains through hilly terrain as well as fast expresses in the flat. Locomotives of E18 were operated at first for express passenger trains but later used for normal passenger trains.
The wheel arrangement of E18 was 1-Do-1, the power output 3,040kW, the max spped 150km/h (design speed: 180km/h) and the livery was steel-blue. Class E18 had very light body for the times. And many of their mechanical and electrical parts were further developments or adaptations of components already uses in E17 and E 04. The lateral play in the driving axles and the "Krauss-Helmholtz" pony trucks at each end gave excellent track-holding properties. The switchgear was so advanced as to call for comparatively little physical or mental effort on the part of the driver. In 1937 at the Paris World Exposition, E18 received a `Grand Prix`.
Some locomotives were destroyed during the war, But most of them were used after WW II.
After 1945, 2 more locomotives were built with spare parts by AEG and Krupp, and 41 locomotives were remained with DB. They were operated almost exclusively in the South East of Germany - and proved to be very reliable machines. The last one were based in Wuerzburg. Since DB`s numbering system was changed, class E18 was called class 118. In 1984, class 118 was withdrawn from its service, but some locomotives are left now in some museum, such as the DB museun in Nürnberg.
DR used six locomotives of class E18. They are repainted to green livery, and the number of them are changed to class 218 in 1970. They were withdrawn from scheduled service in 1980th.

Class E19 (01/02/11/12 :4 locomotives)

From 1927 DRG used the locomotives of E17 for express passenger train. And then, DRG developed a new electric locomotive for heavy express passenger train - E19. E19 was further developed and more powerful than E18 but had similar looking, but there are differences in their appearance, airinlets, roof boxes, etc.
Of course E19 was mainly operated for express passenger train at first, but later for normal passenger trains and commuter trains.
The livery of E19 is wine red. The wheel arrangement of E19 was 1-Do-1, max speed 180km/h (desigb speed: 225km/h). The power output of E19 01 and 02 is 4,000kW, and that of E19 11 and 12 is 4,080kW.
The locomotive entered in service in 1940. During the war, the max speed was limited to 140km/h. After the war, all E19s were used by DB. E19 was repainted to other liveres such as green or blue by DB.
From 1968, E19 was called class 119. Class 119 was withdrawn from its normal service in 1980th.
Now 2 locomotives of class E19 are preserved in some museums.
