BR113

E10.12/BR112 (265-270/308-312/485-504 : 31 locos) ---> BR113 (265-270/308-312 : 11 locos)
Early in 1960s, the main lines of DB were electrified, and DB needed new electric locomotives for express trains instead of steam locomotives. From May 1962, some improvements were made for 5 locomotives of E10.1 (239-244) and their maxium speed became 160km/h. These locos were the first locomotives of E10.12. They had blue/beige livery which was similar to that of Rheingold wagons because the main purpose of them was to haul "Rheingold". But these locomotives were restored to what they had been, and became E10.1 again between September and December.
From summer 1962, new locomotives of E10.12 were delivered with the maxium speed of 160km/h. They had streamelined front faces, and covers for air filters on their each side. (These covers has been removed yet.) The mechanical parts were similar to those of E10.1 but the gear rate was changed. E10.12 weighed 1.4t more than E10.1. In summer 1963, E10 1270 (No.270 loco) was used for test and ran at 180km/h in around Bamberg.
In 1963, 5 locomotives (E10 1308-1312) were delivered and mainly operated for "Rheinpfile". In 1968 20 locomotives were also delivered with TEE livery (red/beige), to cope with the development of TEE network. And E10.12 were renumbered to class 112.
At last 31 locomotives of class 112 were built. From 1970, new electric locomotives of class 103 were built. Then class 112 was operated for mainly IC trains which didn`t run at 200km/h. 112 265-270 were allocated at BW Heidelberg, 308-312 at Nürnberg and 485-504 at BW Frankfurt 1 (later BW Dortmund and BW Hamburg). From 1971 "Rheingold" was only hauled by class 103, but from 1985 class 112 hauled "Rheingold" again between München and Salzburg.
In 1988 some changes were made for 20 locomotives of class 112 (485-504). The maxium speed of them became 140km/h, and rhese locomotives were renumbered to class 114 and then to class 110.
When DB was united with DR, class 112 were renumbered to class 113. And some of them had new red livery (Orientrot, era V).
Now all of class 113 were allocated at BW München and operated for mainly IR and local trains.
The length of class 113 is 16,400mm, weight 86t, wheel arrangement Bo-Bo, power output 3,700kW and max speed 160km/h.
