BR155 (BR 250 : DR)

Class 155 (001-273 : 273 locomotives)
In 1974, LEW of DR built an experimental locomotive which was more powerful than class 294 (E94). This locomotive is class 250 (Now class 155). DR started the mass-production of locomotives of class 250.
The outside looking of class 150 is different from class 242. The simple looking enable DR to reduce the cost, and it was easy to wash and to fix the locomotives, and BR243 had similar looking.
The position of the head lights was different between the prototypes and mass-produced locomotives, but those of prototypes were moved to the same position. The installed direction of the whistle is still different, so prototypes has no DB logo on its face.
Class 250 is not only powerful but also fast. When hauling light goods train, it can run at 125km/h, faster than class 151 and even class 109 (class 211 : DR number). When InterCityNight started its service, it hauls this train in DR area. (Now class 103 hauls this train.)
Until 1984, 273 locomotives of class 250 were built. They played the leading part of freight transportation, and steam locomotives were retired from main lines. Before the unification of DB and DR they renumbered to class 155.
After the unity, some of them were operated in old Bundesbahn area, too. Class 155 is more powerful than class 150, so it is operated in common with class 151.
Since DB-Cargo started, all of this class have belonged to this new company. Now some of them has new red livery with DB-Cargo logo.
the length of class 155 is 19,600mm, weight 123t, wheel arrangement Co-Co, output power 5,400kW and maximum speed 125km/h.
