Class 141 (001 - 451 : 451 locomotives) |
![]() |
While the electrification was progressing, DB needed light passenger
electric locomotives to replace some classes of steam locomotives like
BR38 and BR86. For this purpose, locomotives of class 141 were built from
1956. The length of class 141 was short, so only five air filters were arranged on its each side. (Eight air filters were arranged on that of class 150.) Class 141 was used mainly for local and suburban passenger trains and also for light freight trains. And It can be operated even in branch lines because the weight per an axle is only 16.5t. But it is impossible to be operated in particular lines such as Höllentalbahn (This line has a gradient of 50 permil.). Mechanically class 141 and class 110.1 are in common at many points, but class 141 has smaller output power and traction power. And class 141 can be used for pushing operation. "Silberling" wagons were built to couple with this class. At first, class 141 had green livery, and later some had blue/beige or orange/white livery. In 1980s, some locomotives are painted in experimental livery for S-Bahn. From the end of 1980s, the locomotives were repainted to "orientrot". 141 001 was decided to be preserved. Then it was renumbered to E41 001, and repainted to blue livery. Now class 141 was operated in former Bundesbahn area. Recently classes 423 and 612 were being built. They will be operated instead of the trains hauled by class 141. And when one of the latest electric locomotives, class 145, are mass-produced, the locomotives of class 141 will start being replaced. The length of class 141 is 15,620mm, weight 66.9t, wheel arrangement Bo-Bo, power output 2,200kW, traction power 206kN, and the maxium speed 120km/h. |
