The 042 was the BR 41 with oil firing, whereas the coal-fired version was called 041 from 1968 on. The class 41 had been mainly converted with new boilers and the non-rebuilt 41's disappeared in the beginning of the 1970's, as well as the new-boilered coal-fired 41's.(We are talking here of DB-locos,not DR).

Oil-fired locos were concentrated in the end-phase of steam traction in the depots of Rheine and Emden (before,oil-depots were Osnabrück, Hamburg, Kassel and Bebra) where they could make use of their superiority in front of heavy trains.
