ETA means `Electric railcar with accumulator`. First ETA were introduced by KPEV (Koeniglich preussische Eisenbahn-Verwaltung - Royal Prussian Railroad Administration) at the beginning of the century.
After WW II the DB created two new classes. ETA 150, which was in service until the early 90's, and class ETA 176. It was a very elegant vehicle. As it was stationed in Limburg and looked like cigars they were called 'Limburger Zigarren'.
