Railways around Dresden after the flood of the century!

After the biggest flood , ever seen in Dresden, is gone, the german railways started the reconstruction of the dammaged lines. The DB said, only in Dresden, the reconstruction will cost 350 Millions Euro. The Mainstation of Dresden was flooded the first time, since it was built in 1890. The water stands 2 meters high in the main hall. The electric systems (overhead, signals), which were rebuilt a half year ago, are mostly dammaged. Over 30 locos and trainsets are completely dammaged only in Dresden. At the moment, only two trains are going thru Dresden Main Station. The Intercity to Berlin and the City Commuter from Pirna to Meissen. The following lines are closed;

Dresden - Prague, full closed, re-opening date unknown, maybe hard dammage in the embankment. All International Passenger and Fright Trains are cancelled with no compension.

Dresden - Chemnitz, full closed, completly dammaged on many kilometers. Re-opening maybe in late 2003!

Heidenau - Altenberg, full closed, completly dammaged on more than 15 kilometers, re-opening not before late 2003.

Dresden - Leipzig, half closed, because of brigde dammage in Riesa. Only the city commuter Dresden - Leipzig is going, passengers must use the bus during Riesa.

The folowing trains are canceled:

ICE Dresden - Nuernberg between Dresden and Chemnitz (Bus between Dresden and Chemnitz)

IC Hamburg - Berlin - Dresden - Prague/Budapest/Vienna between Dresden and Prague. No Bus.

IR Dresden - Oldenburg between Dresden and Leipzig, Bus.

ICE Dresden - Saarbruecken between Dresden and Leipzig, Bus.

Also many fright trains are cancelled

The trains to the east, like that ones to Poland (Warszawa), Goerlitz, Zittau or the Airport, are going normal, also that ones to Berlin, Cottbus and Hoyerswerda. Because of the reconstruction of the Marienbridge, they start in Dresden Neustadt. The DB said, it will need years, until all the dammage is repaired.
